LMS (Learning Management System) es un producto software dedicado a la Gestión de Aprendizaje.
Un LMS se debe instalar en un servidor, (en un cliente se puede instalar para hacer pruebas locales antes de publicar), se emplea para administrar, distribuir y controlar las actividades de formación no presencial o e-learning de una institución u organización.
Dentro de las funciones del LMS se cuenta: la gestión de usuarios participantes (estudiantes, docentes e invitados), con sus respectivos roles; la gestión de recursos (materiales educativos); la gestión de actividades de formación (tareas, cuestionarios, etc.); la gestión de servicios de comunicación (foros, chat, videoconferencia); además el LMS debe permitir hacer seguimiento del proceso de aprendizaje, controlar el acceso (a los cursos, materiales), generación de informes, entre otros.
